Freight Market Summary
Clean Tankers – The U.S. Gulf clean market remains oversaturated. A long list of open ships continues to put pressure on rates as owners discount aggressively to secure stems. Demand into Latin America and the East Coast holds steady but isn’t strong enough to clear tonnage. Sentiment remains soft heading into the week.
Crude Tankers – VLCCs continue routing via the Cape of Good Hope, tying up capacity and keeping a floor under long-haul rates. However, fixture activity has been quiet, and owners may begin to test the market with softer rate ideas if demand fails to pick up this week.
LNG Shipping – Atlantic LNG freight remains firm, with limited spot availability and longer voyages due to risk-averse routing and seasonal disruptions. As Q4 progresses, charterers are staying active on forward coverage, supporting elevated rate levels.
Overall Outlook – Crude and LNG segments are structurally supported by routing inefficiencies and tight vessel supply, while clean tankers continue to face mounting pressure from overcapacity and weak export programs. Market tone remains split across sectors.
