Freight Market Summary
Clean Tankers – The U.S. Gulf clean tanker market is still under pressure. Prompt tonnage remains abundant, and carriers are increasingly aggressive with discounting to land stems. Latin American and East Coast flows provide some outlet, but not enough to relieve the oversupply.
Crude Tankers – VLCCs continue employing the Cape of Good Hope route, absorbing capacity and supporting long‑haul rate floors despite a lack of strong cargo demand. With fixture activity muted, some owners may test softened rate ideas in coming days if demand fails to rebound.
LNG Shipping – Atlantic Basin LNG freight remains tight. Spot vessel availability is thin, and voyage durations are stretched by risk-averse routing and seasonal constraints. The market continues to favor owners, with limited downside potential unless chartering volumes pull back.
Freight Outlook – Structural inefficiencies—rerouted voyages, congestion, and limited flexibility—are still propping up crude and LNG freight. Clean segments, however, face uphill battles with overcapacity and bench‑marked softness in export demand. For now, the market remains bifurcated: resilience in some lanes, weakness in others.
