Freight Market Summary

  • Clean Tankers – The clean tanker market in the U.S. Gulf remains under pressure. Prompt tonnage is still deep, and owners are offering increasingly aggressive discounts to land cargoes. Latin American and East Coast flows provide some relief, but not enough to reverse the weakness.

  • Crude Tankers – VLCCs persist with the Cape of Good Hope route, maintaining longer voyages and tying up tonnage. That structural inefficiency continues to support long‑haul rates, although fixture activity is cautious until better demand signals appear.

  • LNG Shipping – The Atlantic Basin LNG freight market remains tight. Scarce spot vessel availability and extended routing due to risk avoidance and seasonal congestion are helping maintain elevated rate levels. The balance still favors owners, barring a pullback in chartering.

  • Market Outlook – Crude and LNG sectors continue to benefit from routing constraints and tight supply. The clean segment, however, is challenged by oversupply and weak demand fundamentals. Until export programs or downstream demand show meaningful strength, clean tanker rates may stay under downward pressure heading into next week.
